Principal’s Message
Moody Middle School Parents:
It is with great pride that I welcome you to the 2024-2025 school year at George H. Moody Middle School. George H. Moody Middle School is rich with history and honors our namesake well. For nearly thirty-eight years, Dr. George H. Moody served the citizens of Henrico County as a teacher, principal, and finally, as superintendent. In 1951 he became the first principal of a newly opened Hermitage High School, where he served until being promoted to superintendent in 1956. On August 31, 1978, George H. Moody was honored with a great educational accolade. Hermitage Middle School, previously Hermitage High School, changed its name to George H. Moody Middle School – a great hallmark in the life of a dedicated educator.
George H. Moody Middle School currently serves approximately 1,050 students and we are proud to celebrate our very diverse population. We are an International Baccalaureate World School and the staff at Moody strives to create a safe and positive environment where learning is paramount for all students. We believe that all children will respond to high expectations with a program that: fosters the discovery of individual strength; creates autonomous, reflective learners; promotes collaboration and communication for the 21st century; and encourages active involvement in a culturally diverse international community. We place great emphasis on providing our students with the tools and skills to help them to be highly successful.
George H. Moody Middle School, Fairfield Middle School, and Tuckahoe Middle School are proud to be home to the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program. The International Baccalaureate Organization aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people to create a better, more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end, the IBO works with schools, governments, and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment. These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate, and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
The highly qualified Moody faculty and staff are excited and honored to serve your children each day. We understand that you entrust their education to us and we take the responsibility of helping each student achieve at the highest level very seriously. Our Moody Raider students excel in all areas; the classroom, on the athletic field, performing in strings, band, chorus, art, drama, and in giving back to the community with the many service projects that are performed. We are a school that is truly a learning community “Going Beyond the Answer” and we are dedicated to student success and leadership with a world view!
