This is a reminder to all families that the final collection for service as action hours will be May 7th and 8th through APL. Thank you to everyone for all of your hard work and commitment to upholding our responsibility for giving back to our communities.

This past week Anushree S., Jillian T., Kayla L., and Ally L. all competed at Virginia History Day where fierce competitors from all over the state presented projects on every topic imaginable. All of the girls did a great job. Ally L. placed with her website entitled, “The New Deal: A Triumph or Tragedy in Finance?” and will be going to College Park, MD this June for the National History Day Competition!!!!

Four years ago, Moody Middle School was the first school from Henrico County to participate in the local history day competition. Since that first contest with eight sixth graders, we have grown, and this past year brought thirty to the district level, four to the state, and now for the first time ever, one to the Nationals!!!
On Tuesday night, Ishan Joshi won the Optimist Oratorical local speaking contest! He will move on to the state level competition on Saturday, May 4. This year, the competition will be held in Richmond at the 4 Points Sheraton located at 4700 Laburnum Ave. The competition is from 2-4 pm, and anyone who would like to attend is welcome.
Congratulations to the following FIRST PLACE competitors at last night’s HCPS countywide forensics competition, where Moody Raiders won 8 of the 12 categories: Ilakkiya S., Will T., Shreyas A., Arjun M., Nitya K., Ally L., Nat T., and Ritvika P. Congratulations, also, to silver medalist Ishan J.
Join Deep Run Color Guard for Spring Jump Start! All are welcome – no experience necessary. Rising 8th and 9th graders are invited to come explore if Color Guard is for you!

This is an opportunity for parents and students to hear from administrators, the athletic director, band director, JROTC, and several students. See the attached flyer for more information.

Remember, Friday, April 19th is a half day of school and Monday, April 22nd is a school holiday. When we return to school Tuesday, we will follow a day one schedule.
Glen Allen High School will be hosting a field hockey summer camp for rising 3rd through 9th grade girls. See the attached flier for more information.
Attention all 8th grade parents…we need your help! We need donations of $5-$25 to help make our 8th graders feel like “stars” as we roll out the red carpet for the 8th grade dance on June 7th. Please send a check in to your child’s APL teacher ASAP. You should have received a “Save the Date” with additional information; if you have any questions, please contact the PTSA.
The month of May is National Physical Fitness and Sports Month. This is a great time to promote the benefits of physical activity. Moody students will complete their fitness testing in April and May. Encourage your Raider to strive to achieve the Moody Max Award – reaching the “Moody Max” in all five fitness tests.
“No matter how many mistakes you make or how slow you progress, you are still way ahead of everyone who isn’t trying.” Here’s to a great week!

I hope that all of you had a restful and relaxing spring break. We are looking forward to seeing everyone at school tomorrow. Tomorrow we will be following a day one schedule.
The teachers and students at Moody Middle School continue to support Relay for Life and its mission to find a cure, support patients, and to give hope to all who are affected by cancer. Relay is on June 1st at Pocahontas Middle from 4-10 PM. More information will be coming soon at informational sessions at school, Schoology, and email.
Due to the June 11th now being a holiday, the 8th grade rising up ceremony has been changed to June 10th.
“Don’t wait until you’ve reached your goal to be proud of yourself. Be proud of every step you take toward reaching that goal.” Raiders, as we continue on the path toward SOL testing and the end of the year, stay focused and determined to reach your goals!
